Chair Quartet

The Chair Quartet

Chair Quartet repurposes the function of an object through sound. Four chairs are sonified and designed according to their sonic identity, with sensors built within their frames. Interaction with the chairs will give rise to specific sonic experiences. The Chair Quartet explores the relationship between the user, the chair, and the collective body of users and chairs. In promoting the chair as an instrument, users will understand the dynamics of collaborative improvisation directly through movement of the body.

The sensors built in the chairs are connected to computer via Arduino. The data received from them are then turned into bespoke sounds using MAX/MSP.
